Thurston was in the local newspaper (Westmorland Gazette) recently. The paper ran an article about the current works taking place at the centre. Here is what they had to say:
An outdoor education centre based in the Lake District is going green thanks to a quarter of a million cash injection.
Coniston’s Thurston Outdoor Education Centre has secured £243,750 for a raft of environmental measures which could result in energy savings of £20,000 a year.
The South Tyneside Council owned centre will benefit from solar panels, a ground source heat pump, double glazing and water saving measures, all set for completion next spring.
“We know that Thurston holds a special place in the hearts of many local residents who have fond memories of learning new skills at the centre,” said Cllr Joan Atkinson, lead member for Children, Young People and Families.
It is the only outdoor education centre in the country to receive cash from the Sport England’s Improvement Fund.
Thank you to the Westmorland Gazette for featuring us in the paper.
