Generous Donation from The Friends of Thurston Group
Thurston OEC would like to say a very big thank you to the Friends of Thurston Group for their continuing support of the centre. The “Friends” have been fundraising to aid Thurston with the purchase of Stand Up Paddle Boards for the centre.
Andy Stubbs from the Friends of Thurston Group visited the centre yesterday to hand over a cheque for £700 to Head of Centre, Andy Sallabank.
We are sure the new activity will prove very popular with visitors to the centre.

Are you interested in becoming a Friend of Thurston?
The ‘Friends of Thurston’ group was originally set up in 2008 by a band of keen, willing volunteers looking to develop a campsite at Thurston utilising the old shower block and Victorian walled garden area. They were successful in obtaining a grant from the Lottery ‘Awards for All’ and set about the task over a number of weekends.
The original Friends of Thurston group in 2008
Their enthusiasm and dedication to task saw the old potting shed get a new roof, its interior slate walls were cleaned and re-pointed and a mezzanine floor installed resulting in a really useful campsite kitchen with storage area. In addition the shower block was given new entrance points from the campsite, new cubicle showers and light sensors.
Continued support is always thankfully received with plenty of projects awaiting manpower and finance to get off the ground.
The ‘Friends of Thurston’ group aims are to:
1. Apply for grants and fund raise
2. Organise working parties to complete projects and with group support plan outdoor activities weekends.
The group is open to adults that are over 18 and Families only.
The AGM is this Thursday 12th March 2015, 7.30pm at Simonside Wall. If anyone is interested in joining then please come along.
Thurston OEC would like to thank Andy Stubbs for his involvement and continued support with the Friends of Thurston group.
